What should I expect on my first visit to We Fix Feet?
At your first visit, please attend 10 minutes prior to your appointment.  As such, this will allow sufficient time to complete the necessary paperwork prior to you seeing the clinician.  An initial assessment will then be carried out by your clinician.  A relevant medical history and details of any medication, ailments, or conditions will be taken.  Next, a physical examination of the foot will then be conducted.  This will determine the clinical diagnosis of your complaint and your clinician will explain fully.  This will give you the opportunity to discuss the problem and ask any questions you may have.  Your clinician will provide you with options for treatment in the form of a treatment plan to be agreed.  At your first appointment, if in agreement, it is usual that initial treatment will be undertaken.
Do I need a referral from a Doctor or a GP?
No, you can contact us directly and we will be happy to see you without a formal referral.  Please phone us to make an appointment, or alternatively, book online for an initial appointment
Do you carry out toe nail surgery?
Yes, we carry out different forms of nail surgery.  For persistent ingrown toenails, we are able to perform a total removal or partial removal of the toenail.  A local anaesthetic is administered for this procedure.
Can I get an emergency, out of hours appointment?
Yes, we offer an emergency out of hours appointments.  As such, this is a premium service for those clients who need help when they are most in need.
Are home visits available?
No.  However, we believe the best service can be provided within a clinical setting.
Do you have on-site car parking?
Within a few yards of the clinics, We Fix Feet is served by nearby local public car parking spaces.  However, we don’t have on-site parking available at our clinics.  Please see the details for our Beeston – Nottingham and Ilkeston – Derbyshire clinics.
Do We Fix Feet Clinics have easy wheelchair access?
Yes, all of our clinics are at ground floor level and have accessibility for wheelchair users and those with mobility issues.
What is the difference between a Podiatrist and Foot Health Practitioner?
A Podiatrist is someone who has extended skills.  They are able to perform nail surgery and biomechanical assessments.  As such, they may have obtained a University Degree in Podiatry or Podiatric Medicine.  It is likely that a Podiatrist may be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).  Therefore, those with a qualification in Podiatry and registered with the HCPC are known by the legally protected designated title of “HCPC Registered Podiatrist”.

A Foot Health Practitioner may have the same skills as a Podiatrist in dealing with general foot care such as toenail cutting, removal of hard skin, corns, callus, verruca treatment and ingrown toenails.   A Foot Health Practitioner may be registered with a Professional Standards Authority (PSA) accredited register.

Do you claim for your Podiatry of Foot Care treatment on any insurance or cash plan scheme?  If so, please ensure you make the booking for your treatment with a clinician that meets your specific scheme providers T&Cs.  We operate both Foot Health Practitioners and Podiatrists within our clinics.  Scheme providers terms and conditions differ with their requirements for reclaiming of treatment costs.

What should I bring to my first appointment?
You will need to bring yourself and a list of any medication you are currently taking if you are attending a Podiatry or Foot Care appointment.  If you are attending a Musculoskeletal Biomechanical Assessment, please also bring along a selection of footwear.  In this case, a pair of shorts and loose clothing should also be worn or brought along.
What is your cancellation policy?
If a patient fails to attend their appointment or they cancel at the last minute, a fee will be charged.  As a result, we will be unable to offer the appointment to other patients.  For instance, urgent treatment may be required by other patients.

As soon as you know that you will be unable to attend your appointment for any reason, please contact us by telephone:  Ilkeston clinic 0115 9328832 or Beeston clinic 0115 9223377.

Please note:

The full charge for the appointment will become payable in the event of non-attendance.  Likewise, the full charge will become payable if cancellation is made within 24 hours of the booked appointment.   Exceptional circumstances will, however, be taken into consideration.

There is no age restriction to be seen by a Podiatrist or Foot Health Professional, we welcome the whole family to our clinics.
Do I need an appointment or can I turn up to the clinic?
You will need an appointment prior to attending the clinic. Unfortunately, we do not provide a walk-in service, however, if you do need an appointment as quickly as possible please call our clinics and we will try our best to accommodate you.
What type of shoes are best to wear after nail surgery?
We would advise you to bring a pair of wide, lose shoes/sandals with you to wear after the surgery so the toe does not get squashed. The toe will be dressed and can be quiet bulky so opened toed sandals, a slipper or a wide shoe is essential to be worn after the surgery.
How long will it take me to recover after nail surgery?
The healing rate differs from person to person however on average a partial nail avulsion can take 5-6 weeks to heal and a total nail avulsion can take up to 12 weeks to heal. Ensure you follow post-operative advice for a speedy recovery.
When can I return to work/school after nail surgery?
We would advise you to rest with your foot elevated on the day of surgery. Returning to work or school depends on the individual and activities. Some patients take a second day off and then feel fine to return to work or school. It is essential that footwear is wide enough to accommodate the dressing and the toe gets no pressure from shoes or any other external force.
Will I have anaesthetic if I have nail surgery?
Yes you will have a local anaesthetic for nail surgery which will ensure the surgery is as pain-free as possible.
Can I drive after nail surgery?
You will NOT be able to drive following nail surgery as your toe will be numb from the local anaesthetic and your insurance will be invalid.  Unless you are using public transport, we strongly advise someone accompanies you to the appointment who is suitable to drive.
