Children’s Heel Pain
Heel pain is a common foot complaint and is one of the most common conditions treated by our clinicians. It is often a message from the body that something is in need of medical attention. Pain that occurs right after an injury or early in an illness may play a protective role, often warning us about the damage we have suffered.
Sever’s disease is the most common cause of heel pain in growing children. It occurs in children when the growth plate (which is the growing part of the heel) is injured. The foot is one of the first body parts to grow to full size. This usually occurs in early puberty. During this time, bones often grow faster than muscles and tendons.
